look , orang utan does housework !

what can u say after watch this video of orang utan does housework .?

how to save endangered orang utan

Step 1

Adopt an orangutan by providing money for his care. The Orangutan Foundation International, for example, offers individuals, families and schools the opportunity to assist in their conservation efforts by "adopting" an orphaned young animal. You'll often receive photos and news about the animal you choose to adopt.

Step 2
Purchase recycled paper and products made from sustainable timber. Habitat destruction continues to put orangutans in danger. Because eco-labeling can be inconsistent, it's best to not to purchase any type of tropical hardwood to avoid supporting rainforest destruction.

Step 3
Take an eco-tour to see orangutans. Some organizations offer you the chance to visit and assist refuges. You can help do research on wild orangutans, assist with daily caretaking at the wildlife refuge or simply observe the animals. Creating an environment that makes orangutan survival profitable will help governments and businesses take action.

Step 4
Buy only sustainable palm oil or products using sustainable palm oil. Conversion of habitats to palm oil plantations has happened across the great ape's habitat. Owners of the plantations clear-cut lowland rainforests, leaving no habitat. Many plantations consider orangutans wildlife pests and kill them when given the chance.

Step 5
Support zoos and other organizations who sponsor breeding and research programs. Visit the zoos, donate money to the programs and support community education initiatives. Captive breeding programs may help sustain the species and research can help experts come up with new conservation strategies.

Step 6
Hold a fundraiser with the donations going to orangutans. Donate the money to one of the conservation organizations and use the occasion to educate others about what they can do to help save endangered orangutans.

information of baby orang utan

Vital Statistics

Newborn orangutan babies weigh about 3 pounds. They are born fully covered with hair, except on the face. Their eyes are open, and they can grasp. The mother will carry them everywhere for the baby's first year and then the baby will start to travel on its own. Mother and baby stay together closely until the age of four, when it begins to wander off for short excursions. The baby will not be weaned until it is about four years old.

Number

Orangutans have one baby at a time. The mother spends up to six years taking care of the baby and will not mate during this time. According to the Honolulu Zoo, no female with a baby less than four years old will mate, which is one reason why an adult male orangutan may kill a small baby---so the mother will go into heat. A female orangutan can only have three or four babies in her entire lifetime, which is one reason why the species is endangered.

Pet Trade

In order to get a baby orangutan to sell in the pet trade, the mother must be killed because she will not give up her baby willingly. According to the BBC News, this practice is illegal, but authorities rarely prosecute. Baby orangutans can bring thousands of dollars on the black market. However, when the babies grow bigger and stronger, these pets are surrendered to animal shelters.

Misconception

Orangutans do not instinctively know how to survive in the wild, no matter what their age. They need to be taught how to survive by their mothers. According to the Honolulu Zoo, in order for an orphaned baby orangutan to be released into the wild and have any chance at surviving, they need at least five years in a rehabilitation center.

Fun Fact

One baby male orangutan named Chantek was taught sign language from the age of nine months by anthropologist Lyn Miles. Chantek learned over 150 signs from 1978 to 1986. He first lived with Miles in her home and then, when he was eight, moved to the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and then was moved to the Atlanta Zoo in 1997.

how to keep orang utan from going extinct

Step 1

Boycott any products that contain palm oil in their ingredients. Palm oil is widely used in processed foods such as cookies, chips, margarine, and candy. It is also found in many household products and cosmetics like detergent, lotion and lipstick. Boycotting such products keeps money from the palm oil industry, helping to slow its takeover and destruction of rainforests.

Step 2
Spread the word. Talk to friends and family about boycotting products made with palm oil. Most people haven't heard about the damaging effects of the palm oil industry on the environment and animals like orangutans. Raising awareness is one of the most important ways you can help. The more people boycott palm oil, the more corporations will feel the pressure to stop using it.

Step 3
Write letters to companies that sell products with palm oil and make it clear that you are disappointed in their choice to support a destructive industry. Ask them to consider alternative options to palm oil, and tell them that you won't buy their products until they stop using it.

Step 4
Speak with grocery store managers or contact a chain's corporate headquarters about discontinuing the sales of items made with palm oil. This can be difficult to accomplish, but it's worth a try. Most people unknowingly support the palm oil industry when they buy these products because there are so many of them. Removing the products completely could make a significant impact on the industry.

Step 5
Donate money to an organization that helps orangutans displaced by deforestation. Many of these orangutans are orphans--shelters give them a home and a place to be cared for, as they have no other place to go since their natural habitats are vanishing. You can also get involved by choosing an orangutan to "adopt." Check the Resources section for some links to these organizations.

OUR MISSION IS TO SAVE ORANGUTAN AND MAKE PEOPLE REALIZE HOW BIG IS IMPORTANT ABOUT ORANGUTAN AND THEIR SPECIES ALSO THEIR HABITAT .

we are their hope =)

we are their hope .
they get extinct because of the loss of their habitat .
nowadays, people always destroy the forest to build a big building.
but thanks to people who care because made a sanctuary for them .

there's only two sanctuary of orang utan .
one is at sabah and sumatera .
there's only 20,000 orang utan in this world .
once the bell in the sanctuary rings it means that one of orang utan in the sanctuary is dead .

did you know .
it's a lot cost to take for one orang utan.
can you imagine?one orang utan you have to cost about thousand ringgit just for their food and everything else ?

we are one and only their hope to survive in this beautiful world .
they need our help to live and we need to save them and their species .

orang utan =)

STATUS:

Endangered.

DESCRIPTION:

Orangutans have thin, shaggy, reddish-brown hair. They have long, powerful arms and strong hands that they can use to manipulate tools. Orangutans have the ability to make 13 to 15 different types of vocalizations.

SIZE:

Most orangutans are four to five feet long, some can reach a length of six feet. Adult males weight between 100 and 200 pounds and adult females weight between 65 and 100 pounds. Orangutans have an arm spread of about five feet.

POPULATION:

An estimated 19,000 to 25,000 orangutans live in the wild. Another 900 live in captivity.

LIFESPAN:

In the wild, orangutans live for about 35 to 40 years.

RANGE:

Orangutans are only found on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Southeast Asia.

HABITAT:

Orangutans are arboreal creatures, which means they spend most of their lives slowly walking, swinging and climbing through dense rain forests.

FOOD:

Orangutans feed mainly on fruits, especially wild figs. They also eat other kinds of vegetation, insects, small vertebrates and birds eggs.

BEHAVIOR:

Orangutans are solitary creatures. Adult males live primarily alone and only come together with females to mate. Adult females live with their young. Occasionally, adults will live with other adults for short periods in small temporary groups. Orangutans spend most of their lives in a "home range" of 0.4 to 3.7 square miles. Females have a smaller home range than males. Sometimes the home ranges of individual orangutans overlap.

OFFSPRING:

Females are able to give birth after age seven, but in the wild they generally do not mate until age 12. They give birth to one young at a time, which clings to its mother's stomach until it is about a year old. When an orangutan reaches adolescence at about four or five years, it becomes more independent but may seek protection from its mother until it reaches seven to eight years.

THREATS:

The orangutan's most serious threat is the destruction of forest habitat from excessive logging. Female orangutans are also killed and their young are taken and illegally placed in circuses and zoos.

PROTECTION:

Endangered Species Act, CITES* Appendix I

*Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, an international treaty with more than 144 member countries. Appendix I listed species cannot be traded commercially. Appendix II listed species can be traded commercially only if it does not harm their survival.

where does the words of orang utan came from ?

The name orangutan (also written orang-utan, orang utan and orangutang) is derived from the Indonesian and Malay words orang meaning "person" and hutan meaning "forest", thus "person of the forest". Orang Hutan is the common term in these two national languages, although local peoples may also refer to them by local languages. Maias and mawas are also used in Malay, but it is unclear if those words refer only to orangutans, or to all apes in general.

The word was first attested in English in 1691 in the form orang-outang, and variants with -ng instead of -n as in the Malay original are found in many languages. This spelling (and pronunciation) has remained in use in English up to the present, but has come to be regarded as incorrect.

The name of the genus, Pongo, comes from a 16th century account by Andrew Battell, an English sailor held prisoner by the Portuguese in Angola, which describes two anthropoid "monsters" named Pongo and Engeco. It is now believed that he was describing gorillas, but in the late 18th century it was believed that all great apes were orangutans; hence Lacépède's use of Pongo for the genus .

Plant trees to reforest vital habitat for the critically endangered orangutan in Sumatra!

With a wild population of fewer than 7,000, the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) may be the first Great Ape to become extinct. Once widespread throughout the forests of Asia, orangutans are now confined to just two islands, Sumatra and Borneo. Both species are highly endangered due to habitat loss and poaching.

The term "Orang Hutan" literally translates as "Person of the Forest," and indeed, the orangutan shares 96.4% of its DNA with humans, making it one of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. But while humans can reproduce and expand seemingly without limit, the orangutan breeds much more slowly than any other primate, making the population even more vulnerable to habitat disturbance and hunting.

The Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) has been working in Indonesia for years to both educate about the importance of conservation and to help reverse the damage of deforestation. By creating tree nurseries, SOS provides sustainable livelihoods for communities surrounding critical orangutan habitat. Communities therefore no longer need to rely on collecting wood and other forest products for an income. SOS has planted over a quarter million seedlings, and provides training so that communities can be self-sufficient in producing their own seedlings for future replanting.

Among SOS's projects are: Replacing coastal mangroves destroyed by the 2004 tsunami, replanting hardwood and fruit trees in degraded forest areas in Aceh province, and working to reforest the Leuser Ecosystem in North Sumatra, the most important remaining habitat for the Sumatran orangutan. In 2008, SOS is expanding to work within the borders of Gunung Leuser National Park, working with local government and communities to restore vital orangutan habitat that has been damaged by illegal oil palm plantations inside the protected area.

You can help. Purchase of this Gift That Gives More™ plants 50 native species tree seedlings to help reforest vital areas of orangutan habitat, helping ensure that this close cousin of humankind survives and thrives.

The Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) is dedicated to the conservation of Sumatran orangutans and their forest home. Its international branches raise awareness of the threats facing wild orangutans, and raise funds to support its grassroots conservation projects in Sumatra. Together with a team of committed Indonesian conservationists, it works with local communities living alongside orangutan habitat. It visits schools, plants trees and provides training to help the local people work towards a more sustainable future for their forests. Since 2003, SOS has planted over 270,000 trees.

ItS about ORANGUTAN yaW !

'He's cute'

why would we taking their live, did they do something wrong????

Along with the bonobo, the chimpanzee, and the gorilla, the orangutan is remarkably similar to humans, in terms of anatomy, physiology, and behavior. Like the other great apes, orangutans are highly intelligent, as seen in their advanced tool use and distinct cultural patterns. Their native intelligence is often used to solve problems related to arboreal travel and food processing. However, their rainforest habitat is continuously being destroyed by illegal logging, mining, farming, and palm oil plantations. Despite formally protected status, the wild orangutan continues to be a critically endangered species and could soon become extinct in the wild. Experts predict wild orangutans could become extinct as natural populations in ten to twenty years.

why orangutan is in danger ???

Orangutans are an endangered species according to most wildlife monitoring organizations and conservation groups. Ten thousand years ago, orangutans were found throughout Southeast Asia ranging all the way into southern China. Their populations probably numbered in the hundreds of thousands.

Unfortunately, the species today is found only in limited populations on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Due to the destructive activities of humans, the wild population may have diminished in the past decade by as much as 50%. Estimates of the current population are from less than 50,000 to 60,000 with more than three quarters of all orangutans found on Borneo.

If i can say a word, i would say 'save'

Orangutan say ; save me please, could you stop taking my place. i need to live.do you know my family is fast disappearing. how would you feel if your family dying? are you feeling happy about that? NO! you dont! same as me. i wish this would never happen.

i love this animal, we should love them. why people have to take over their habitat???

we love orang-utan, how about you? :D

why do we love orangutan?
